Janice Hillier- MSW, RSW

Janice (pronounced “Ja-Niece”) Hillier graduated from Dalhousie University with a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree and from McMaster University with combined Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Social Work (BA/BSW) degrees. She is registered (RSW) and in good standing with both the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (Registration #807222) as well as with the Ontario Association of Social Workers. Janice also obtained Levels 1 and 2 certifications in the delivery of online counselling services (E-counselling) through Therapy Online developed by Lawrence Murphy.

Janice has been practicing professional social work since January 2003 in a variety of roles. In addition to her role at Rising Hope Counselling Services, she is also signed as an independent contractor with Morneau Shepell and Homewood Health for delivery of services in their Employee and Family Assistance Programs (EFAP). She uses the following therapeutic models in her client centered work:

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Solution Focused Therapy

  • Strengths Based Therapy

  • Crisis Intervention Therapy

  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)

Janice has experience working with individuals dealing with many different types of challenges. Janice has a strong Christian background and can also help those who prefer a more faith based perspective in their counseling. Therefore, this leaves Janice having the ability to reach out to anyone at any point in their life and meeting them where they are at with respect to their beliefs, communication style and comfort.
